Working in the eCommerce industry
What is your role at Baozun Asia?
Ken: As the Business Development Director at Baozun Asia, my role entails finding and sourcing new client opportunities and establishing Baozun Asia as the preferred eCommerce enabler in Southeast Asia. My focus is on overseeing the eCommerce market in Southeast Asia and ensuring that the right set-up is in place in order to drive B2C and B2B sales successfully. To maximise revenue growth, I work closely and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in marketing, IT, operations, finance, brands, and agencies.

Can you reflect on your first year at Baozun Asia?
Ken: Looking back, it has been an exciting journey at Baozun Asia and I've had the opportunity to spearhead strategic partnerships with major brands across Southeast Asia. One highlight was overseeing the eCommerce operations and strategies for Converse’s marketplace stores in Southeast Asia, for which we achieved a 30% increase in sales compared to the previous year. We also successfully onboarded Invity and kickstarted their eCommerce operations, implementing effective marketing strategies that led to significant sales growth and increased marketplace followers. It has been very fulfilling to observe the progress and impact made by the team.
What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
Ken: A significant challenge, like many other organisations when they launched in Southeast Asia, was comprehending the distinct market conditions in Southeast Asia and adapting our eCommerce solutions to cater to the specific requirements of each country in the region. To overcome this challenge, we collaborated closely with our regional teams to gain in-depth knowledge about each market in order to create tailored solutions for brands.
What advice would you give to aspiring individuals looking to break into the eCommerce industry?
Ken: Have passion, stay curious, and keep learning. Staying up-to-date on emerging trends and technologies is essential to stay ahead in this landscape. Challenges should be seen as opportunities to learn and grow. Build a strong network of peers and mentors in this industry who can provide guidance and support.

Q: What has been your experience with Baozun Asia’s company culture?
Ken: At Baozun Asia, the company culture is all about open communication and teamwork. Unlike your typical corporate hierarchy, it's more like a startup where everyone's ideas are valued, no matter their position.
How is the work-life balance in a Chinese company? Does Baozun prioritise employee well-being?
Ken: At Baozun Asia, we certainly don't follow the 996 culture here. We believe in taking breaks and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Our company encourages a positive work environment by organising team-building activities like our recent wine-tasting sessions and social events. We support our employees in integrating their work and personal life.
